The Great Barrier Reef (BR) is one of the seven wonders of the natural world it’s the world’s largest coral reef ecosystem, and declared a World Heritage area in 1981. Maximum reef building coral consists of colonies of individual coral polyps, small simple creatures which clone themselves into immense communities which are usually anchored to the sea floor. Wavelength offers a self paced tour with the opportunity for interaction with both marine life and a marine biologist on the guided snorkel tour. These sediments decrease the visibility underwater and also limit the amount of sunlight that filters through the water. Although the inside reef has many lovely corals, mainly of the softer variety, it can’t compare to the external reef, which due to its distance from the mainland, has less suspended sediments so more sunlight can penetrate the water. These occur in all tropical snorkeling and diving locations throughout the world, including Hawaii, Florida, the Caribbean, Thailand, Fiji and Indonesia, especially during the warmer seasons. A lot of critters are active at this time as the coral spawn provides a smorgasbord feast for marine dwelling creatures. As coral needs sunlight to grow, the best coral and fish diversity is near the surface. Many of our favorite sites are fair not suitable for divers as they are not deep enough. As a skipper he has an outstanding amount of experience of the far northern waters of the Great Barrier Reef. As Wavelength’s operations manager, his hobbies include rebuilding toilet pumps! Johanna is one of our outstanding marine biologists. After spending some time on the Immense Barrier Reef as a research assistant for the University of Queensland and as a scientific diver, she moved up to Port Douglas to join the incredible adventures Wavelength has to offer! The only thing Robyn loves more than the ocean is her Kellie, Morgan! He knows his way around which is attractive important for his job! There is seating for 87, so there’s enough of room. Opening hatches and windows allow passive saloon ventilation to lessen generator use at the reef. She is smaller than Wavelength 4, and a different motion being a mono hull, but at this size range we don’t think it’s possible to get a more sea kindly boat.
